You will also find enclosed a Rolleston School Consent Form for your child. This needs to be completed and returned to school as soon as possible please. On this form is the opportunity for parents to indicate whether they would be available to come on camp.
Please also complete the EOTC Health Profile for your child. This information will remain confidential and we hope it will enable each child to attend camp rather than stay away because of uncertainty or embarrassment. This information may be given under separate cover if you so desire.
Suitably stocked first aid kits will be taken to camp, therefore, it will not be necessary or desirable that your child brings to camp such items as codeine or disprin tablets.
If you have expressed an interest in attending your child’s camp we will be in contact with you soon. Remember there is a limit to how many parents we can take.

School Uniform: It
has been great to see the children wearing the senior school uniform proudly.
We have also asked the children to make sure that in the interest of safety and
hygiene that hair longer than shoulder length be tied back and off the face.
This is also a requirement for technology classes at Branston Intermediate on
Mondays and Tuesdays. We have asked the children to wear sports shoes for P.E.
and would like your support in ensuring that this is your child’s shoe option
for P.E.
Year 7/8
responsibilities: The children have the opportunity to take on roles of
responsibility in the following: notice monitor, phone monitor, recycling
monitor, banking monitor, hall monitor, peer mediator, road patrol, librarian
and e monitor. If successful the
children are given a school responsibility badge which they can pin to their
school shirt or polar fleece and wear. The children would carry out their
designated duties for the period of time expected. Children are currently
applying for these positions and will hear the outcome of their application
soon.
Technology: We
will be attending Branston Intermediate for technology in 2012. The confirmed
days for technology are:
Mondays 6B2 and 6B4
Tuesdays 6B3, 6B5 and 6B6
The children leave by bus at 9am and return to school by 1pm
on their designated day. Technology starts on Monday 13th February
and Tuesday 14th February. Please refer to the technology notice for
further information.
Hygiene: A
reminder for all our senior children about the importance of daily hygiene and
the importance of clean clothes each day, use of deodorant at appropriate times
and that general daily cleanliness is maintained.
Homework: This
year the nightly homework expectation for your child will be:
Daily spelling words, Reading 20-30 minutes and Maths (learning
the basic facts). The homework may vary slightly for certain children depending
on their needs and ability. Your teacher will notify you if this is the case. This
year we are also offering children the opportunity to complete science badges.
These are self-paced learning modules offering children scientific learning
opportunities. There is a notice available to give you more information on this
exciting and challenging initiative. You can view the website at:
Cell phones: Cell
phones are not allowed in class and students are not allowed to carry their
phones around school. If your child needs to bring their phone to school the
rule is: cell phones are to be handed into the office at the beginning of the
day and can be collected at the end of each day. If there is an emergency and
you need to get hold of your child you can ring the office at school and we
will get a message to your child within minutes.
Scooters: A
reminder that scooters that are brought to school are to be left in the bike
stands and are not to be brought to class.
In terms two and three we enter teams in the Canterbury Primary School’s Weekly Winter
Sports Tournament in rugby, soccer, netball and hockey. The school trials for
these teams start on the 9th March and continue for the rest of the
term. We will need parents to help supervise / coach / select these teams. If
you have the knowledge and time we would love to have your assistance. Please
contact Darryn Aitchison if you are able to help out. darryn.aitchison@rolleston.school.nz
